Howdy from a cold and snowy Cedar Crest, NM…..
First
of all I want to say thank you for all the kind emails….I am blessed
how this little blog is turning into a way to stay connected to old
friends and new ones.
One email I received was especially
significant because it was from my buddy Dennis. Dennis and I go all
the way back to eighth grade. Dennis’ email was very interesting
because he asked me a question that got me thinking ….Here is Dennis’
question….
“All right…you reeled me in. I have really
enjoyed your blog, and it has made me think…could I be successful at
real estate investing?”
As an investor, educator, and speaker….I have seen thousands of students pay thousands of dollars and do one of three things….
1) Never take action
2) Quit
3) Succeed
Now….I
know there are all kinds of reasons/excuses for the first two…believe
me…I have heard them all….and I am guilty in one way or another. I
could go over all the excuses …BUT what I think is more important is
identifying and discussing what are the characteristics of a successful
real estate investor….or at least what I perceive in successful
investors to be success characteristics.
Grasslands has a formula for this called the 360º Freedom Formula with
a big picture approach…..but I thought is would be interesting to come
up with the top 10 success traits of a real estate investor….let’s be
specific….top 10 characteristics of a multi-millionaire real estate
investor….
Attention Deficit Moment #17
The Star War
movies have invaded my home….every conversation I am having with my
boys has to do with Count Duko (or whatever his name is) and Darth
Maul…and Anikan (sp?) ….Opi One Kenobie (that is his name
right….?)….There has to be a guy name Joe….where is Joe? How 
about
John…there has got to be a John? And What is Yoda….someone please tell
me what in the world Yoda is? Never mind…I will tell you what Yoda
is…Kermit the frog on crack cocaine! Have you seen what happens do
people on drugs? This is exactly what happens….you start to shrivel
up…you shrink…and you start to do weird things….like speech slurring
and acrobats….Yoda is not right….
”Daddy…..who is Yoda’s daddy and mommy?”
“Son…Yoda is the son of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy”

In the spirit of Star Wars (where appropriate)…. the top ten attributes of a multi-millionaire real estate investor….

3) Abundance Mindset: “There’s always a bigger fish.” Qui-Gon Jinn
4) Courage: “Now, be brave, and don’t look back” – Shmi Skywalker
5) Action oriented: “Try not. Do or do not… there is no try.” – Yoda
6) Mentor: “Always two there are, a master and an apprentice.” – Yoda
7) Student: "I cannot teach him. The boy has no patience." –Yoda to Ben’s spirit
Team: "Your faith in your friends is yours." –Emperor to Luke …I know
I am stretching here…not even sure what the Emperor is talking about.
9) Gratitude: "Jabba, you’re a wonderful human being." –Han Solo
10) Wealth Lifelines: “HAARhhhh…Rrrrahnnnna….UUGGHhhhhsh” – Chewbacca
Okay..okay…so
I stretched here….YES I DID. But now…I am upset that I spent over an
hour of my life looking up stupid Star Wars’ quotes on the internet
just to be funny and guess what? It is not funny.
Anyway….I will break down the top ten attributes in coming blogs….
