It’s the Relationship Stupid!

I know…I know…you are shocked….two blogs in two days….I know what you are saying….”Rob is back on the pipe”……wrong.
Today…I am going to take an alternate route and write about something different other than “traits of a successful real estate investor.”
I am in class listening to John Shulman of Alignor (www.alignor.com) getting a few tips on negotiating. John is a master negotiator and has the credentials to back it up….. Anyway….as I am getting “schooled”….a question was asked from the audience that caught me off guard…..it went something like this…..”Why are relationships playing a more important role in negotiating vs. analysis?” If you are a regular reader of my blog….you will know why this question caught my attention…if not….click on the link below to read the “original” wealth lifeline (TM) blog.
Now….It is amazing how much time and money we put into education…whether it is college, seminars, books…certifications….etc. We do this hoping that having all this head knowledge will get us farther in life…closer to our dreams….all this in the hope of accomplishment. We also put in a lot of effort in order to circumvent our fears….hoping we can accomplish a lot without having to talk to too many people. In reality…the education is a compliment…or a “nice-to-have” to what really helps us accomplish great things….the cornerstone to success in any area is true….deep…real relationships…..I call it Wealth Lifelines. If we would put as much effort in developing wealth lifelines as we do in education…..I believe….you will get to where you want to go…much much faster….

Get Off Your Arse!

Howdy from my CCIM course in Albuquerque, NM……
Every time I take a CCIM course….I am humbled beyond the point of preference. The CCIM courses remind me how much I do not know. Even though I get up and teach commercial investing to a lot of you….there is a science behind commercial real estate that most investors never see…and do not care to see. It does not surprise me that I am one of a handful of investors in the class full of real estate brokers and agents. If you have any interest as an investor in learning more….I highly recommend attending a CCIM course….www.CCIM.com
As many of you know….I do not do very well in a classroom setting…..I bounce off the walls and I find interest in watching others in the classroom…the fact that we have an internet connection is enough distraction…. Now….couple this with a guy that suffers from A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder)….is NOT on medication….is a "dreamer" ….and put several cups of coffee into the equation….what is the result?….a puppy….a puppy on caffeine….but worse…at least a puppy is cute, nice and happy.
Now…let’s get to number six from the list of characteristics of a successful real estate investor…..
ACTION
Yes…Action! Yeah…Yeah…Yeah….so you have heard this before. Every guru and their mother talk about taking action. My very first Anthony Robbins CD set was based on taking action and how to kick my drug habit. We all know we have to get off the couch and get moving in order to be successful….in order to fulfill your dreams….right?….WRONG
Let me explain….any action…"random action" will lead you somewhere….a place called nowhere. The problem is that If you do not know where you are going…it really does not matter what action you take….this is called random action…..random action is a formula for failure.
Have you ever met someone that is soooo busy and going crazy….but has nothing to show for it? Does this sound familiar?…..A person has many projects….tons of ideas….a full calendar…..lunch and dinner meetings….but nothing is happening? A year later….the same opportunities….same hopes….BUT….a year older….a year poorer….a year dumber…and still a dreamer….nothing but dreamer….reminds me of a song…..I cannot remember the song….hmm.
This also reminds me of the quote below..(this is for the guys):
If you are not handsome in your twenties…
If you are not strong in your thirties…
If you are not rich in your forties….
You will never be handsome, strong, or rich.

Now….how in the world does this quote apply? I am not really sure….but I like that quote and I have been dying to use it.
What I am trying to say is that…ACTION is not enough…..The RIGHT ACTION is! What is it that you want….what is the plan to make it happen…."Develop your plan….work your PLAN!!!"
After you have your plan….how are you working it? Working your plan is the right action. Yes…things will change and your plan will change….but the direction should not if what you really want (burning why) is real….this is totally another discussion….
I know so many people that are seminar and mentorship junkies…..one right after the other….they spend thousands on seminars….and spend thousands more on mentorship programs…..yet nothing in their life changes. Their library shelf looks great…they listen to the CDs….watch the DVDs….read all the news letters….read Rob’s blog….yet…never take action. Instead….they BLAME. They talk about how bad mentorships programs are….or talk trash about a guru….and…to your suprise…trash my blog….I know this is hard to understand. In other words they never take responsibility and blame others on why they have not been successful.
"So Rob….If I should not blame you…or other mentors…..who should I blame?"
The person in the mirror!
Look at that person in the mirror and chew his/her arse out! Slap that person around and tell him/her to stop sitting on their arse and take action on the last book he/she read…..take action on the lessons they learned from the last seminar they went to…tell them to be a student and do what the mentors tell tell them to do instead of trying to figure out a better way……get the point?
Taking the right action is at the heart of success….yes you will fail….but get up and keep taking the right action……If you want to change you life…
Do want to be a winner….act like one and get off you arse…..
