Life Lesson’s – Randy Pausch And Y2K

By Rob Powell

Hey....thanks for coming back! We sure do appreciate it. A repeat reader is a compliment....for sure! Please make sure you subscribe!

Howdy from Cedar Crest, NM!

I am NOT on the global warming bandwagon and I definitely do NOT believe that UFOs exist….BUT I am slowly realizing that I am NOT in the majority here.  I also know that I have offended more of my readers…but what is new right?  Remember Y2K?  I do!  I got caught up in that fiasco..how dumb was that?  Now everyone wants me to put on my cheerleader outfit and fall in line behind Al Gore and help save planet earth.  Hmm…."Father of the Internet"….now  "Father of Sustainability Statements."

Don’t get me wrong….I love the "green" effort….solar energy, wind energy, straw bale homes, recycling,….integrating with nature…I love it….I live in the mountains of New Mexico….you cannot live in New Mexico and NOT love the green effort right?….everyone thinks we are weird anyway….our pony tails, turquoise jewelry, and legal cock fighting….so we embrace it!

How about Larry King?  I was watching Larry King and he had a panel of UFO geeks vs. a "UFOs do not exist" expert.  It was incredible…..first of all….I was upset that I wasted ten minutes of my life watching Larry in his lime green suspenders.  Second of all….the panel was snickering and rolling their eyes when the "UFOs do not exist" expert was speaking.  Are you kidding me?  Does the majority of people on earth believe in UFOs?  If the media can tell me what Britney Spears is doing 24 hours a day why in the world can they not tell me that a UFO landed on the White House lawn?  Because Britney is more interesting?  Right…..

Anyway….

I want to share with you a clip from that my friend Brandon sent me.  This comes from a lecture that a professor from Carnegie Mellon gave called "Lecture of Lifetime."  The name of the professor is Randy Pausch and he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (he does not have much time to live).  There were a lot of nuggets in Randy’s lecture that hit home with me…specifically…."brick walls" and being challenged.

I love what he says about being challenged…

"When you’re screwing up and no one is saying anything to you anymore that means they gave up.  That is a lesson that stuck with me my whole life.  When you see yourself doing something badly and no one is bothering to tell you anymore, that is a very bad place to be."

As a coach and as a co-founder of The Ultimate Challenge, I come across individuals that want more out of life and want to be successful in real estate….but never break through the brick wall and refuse to see themselves as the problem.  I have to admit…that I am almost always my own brick wall and I usually never see myself as the problem….that is my problem!

Until next time…..rob

I believe your statement is probably true when you say…”I am almost always my own brick wall and I usually never see myself as the problem….that is my problem!” Unfortunately, it seems as if you’ve spent most of your life building brick walls, reading books to find your answers, and buying buildings to defend and define your life. Meanwhile whatever you are looking for probably lies in the simplest and sweetest things in life.

Your comments on global warming are sickening. You must be one the 24% that believe George Bush is doing a great job.

Whoa! Thanks for your comment. I still love you man!

Incredible truths here Rob – especially regarding Britney Spears – I’d rather know who just got abducted by aliens from a UFO – why can’t they tell us? Where are the Paparazzi when you really need them?

Amen Brother!
