Real Estate Investing in El Paso, Texas

By Rob Powell

Hey....thanks for coming back! We sure do appreciate it. A repeat reader is a compliment....for sure! Please make sure you subscribe!

Greetings from El Paso, TX. Wow….it is hot down here!

El Paso, TX is where I grew up. My family is still here and so are many of my investments. One thing that is very interesting and exciting about El Paso is that it is a growing economy. That is right….and…you read it correctly. El Paso is doing better than most of the country.

El Paso’s economy vs. the rest of the country is strong because of several factors. A few reasons why:

1) Expansion of Fort Bliss (the consolidation of other military bases has resulted in the growth of Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX)

2) the border with Mexico

3) strong Mexican market

So….with more troops moving into El Paso along with the US government spending billions on infrastructure for both the Fort Bliss expansion and border protection….plus a very strong Mexican market…..add these factors to job growth, new medical school, safety (El Paso is consitently ranked one of the safest cities year after year) and population growth on both sides of the border…..now El Paso has the appearance of an oasis for many investors and business owners.

Retailers are not hesitating in moving in and setting up shop. More recently, an outlet mall (The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso) that just opened last year has announced that it is expediting it’s expansion plans due to demand. Wow!

Last year, The Real Wealth Company (www.TheRealWealthCompany.com) saw some great opportunities to invest in El Paso. A couple of commercial investments were added it’s portfolio based on deep studies of the El Paso market and demographics. Plus it did not hurt to have strong relationships on the ground to give us insider information (insider information is legal in real estate!) on what is happening in the market.

Now…the truth of the matter is the hurt put on by the housing bubble, the sub prime disaster, and whatever else you want to add to the mix is still being felt in El Paso…..I have seen a slowing in some areas of my investing in El Paso. Another negative about  El Paso is that is has one of the highest (if not the highest) property taxes in Texas….this does hurt.  BUT….overall…El Paso is a solid place to invest at this juncture (my opinion of course….and yes…I am a little bias.)

Just in case…..

Just to let you know….”How to be a smart investor in a tumultuous economy – Part II” is coming very soon…..please make sure to register at the top right corner so you do not miss it!

Until next time…..rob
